谷歌官方博客上的一篇帖子称：“24个世纪之后，经过考古学家、学者和历史学家的不懈努力以及互联网的帮助下，全世界的任何一个人现在都可以阅读《死海古卷》。”《死海古卷》的图片解析度达到1200兆像素，是最昂贵的专业照相机的数百倍。图片采用one-shot技术，照相机对《死海古卷》进行长达50分钟的“扫描”以获取大量信息。
《死海古卷》电子版的解析度高的惊人，网民能够清楚地看到羊皮纸以及其他兽皮的薄度和脆弱性。在以色列博物馆的网站，网民可以看到完整的《死海古卷》，可以放大这个以赛亚古卷上的文字并将其翻译成英文。学者们认为这个有着2000年历史的古卷由一个来自朱迪亚沙漠库姆的犹太教教团撰写，公元70年左右藏于洞中，当时罗马人摧毁了耶路撒冷的神殿。
1947年至1956年，贝都因牧羊人在湖岸的洞穴中发现了《死海古卷》。打造数字版《死海古卷》是谷歌与以色列博物馆的一项合作计划。谷歌的以色列研发负责人尤希-马蒂亚斯表示：“谷歌的任务是将全世界的文字信息组织起来并向公众开放，发挥它们的作用。”
